Each day is a delight and a wondrous mystery with this little boy. I love the moments of wonder and discovery, the ability to experience it all for the first time without preconceived ideas and notions. Though wondrous, it's not always easy. Motherhood has a way of filling you up beyond comprehension but also depleting your stores to an emptiness that's hard to imagine. I remember this though, on both the good and the hard days, He is my portion and my strength, not this little boy but my God. We learn, we grow, and we change each other. He is the instrument that is molding and teaching me, and for that gift, I could not be more thankful.
So in the midst of the craziness that is life, we're striving to create tradition, places of comfort and home that we can return to when we're having one of "those" days or just because. As fall slowly starts to envelop us and a growing baby in the belly sends cravings for sweetness my way, we're making Afternoon Cake. I've heard of families having traditions such as "Sunday Cake" and wanted to create a tradition of our own, thus Afternoon Cake in our household has been born. We've been able to make and devour several treats now and I'm pretty sure this tradition is here to stay! This particular time was Strawberry Peach crisp. It was divine and I'm pretty sure I consumed 95% of it all on my own...Colorado doesn't mess around with their Palisade peaches...it's a miracle any made it into the crisp between his and my snacking hands!
